The Beginnings of Mountain Coffee

What began as a simple idea to combine my love of outdoor adventure and amazing coffee, has quickly grown and taken on a life of it's own. And I'm loving every minute of it!

Here's a brief summary of the story so far

Coffee has been a massive part of my life for nearly a decade. As a barista, I've had the pleasure of working with some amazing coffee producers over the years

So deciding to start producing my own roasted coffee beans was a big step. I knew going in that nothing less than the very best would do

FINDING THE PERFECT BEANS

Sourcing the Coffee Beans

With coffee being such a busy market, I wanted to make sure that I could deliver a product that would really stand out amongst the crowd

Picking the perfect beans was a crucial step in this process. We selected some of the finest beans from Kenya and Colombia to begin our Mountain Coffee range.
2020 will see us expand the range, introducing new origins and our very own line of signature blends!

PERFECTING THE ROAST

Air Roasting

Having found the perfect single origin specialty beans, we then had to decide how to roast them

After much research we discovered that air roasting our coffee beans would enable us to deliver the absolute finest quality specialty beans.
The air roasting process we use looks like this:

We suspend the beans on a bed of hot air called the fluid bed (the fluid bed is a vortex inside of the roasting chamber. The vortex allows each individual bean to be roasted evenly and to perfection.)


When the coffee beans pop and crack during air roasting, a skin on the beans called the chaff is blown away from the beans and into a separate chamber (this is important because if the chaff stayed on, it would burn and smoke, giving the coffee a somewhat bitter, smokey flavour that is so common with many traditional drum roasted roasted coffee beans)

The beauty of air roasting is that the heat is evenly distributed throughout the entire batch of coffee beans, allowing us to produce a consistent and reliable top quality roast, every time.

Perhaps the most rewarding part of the entire process is being able to provide our customers with the best coffee they can buy.

As well as our online store, where we can deliver direct to your door, we're very fortunate to be working closely with a variety of local retailers, who enable us to bring our products to shelves you.
